Since 1996, a developer has been trying to obtain planning permission to build motorway services in the beautiful countryside north of our village. The proposed motorway service area (MSA) would be larger than the village and just 500m from it. Over 21 hectares (that’s 32 football pitches!) of farmland would be destroyed. Long-range views from the village towards the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales would be dominated by the MSA. The noise, air, traffic and light pollution from 24-hour motorway services would ruin the character of our village and its surrounding landscape forever.
Kirby Hill & District Parish Council and Kirby Hill RAMS (Residents Against Motorway Services) are committed to fighting the proposed motorway service area. 730 local residents have signed-up to support the RAMS. Detailed evidence has been prepared for a Public Inquiry into motorway services on the A1(M). The links below will give you more information about the proposals, our campaign and what you can do to help.
